The winter blahs can make you want to hibernate. Winter can cause mild cases of blues in about 25% of people in the U.S. People with winter blues often have less energy and a bigger appetite. "Can you relate"?

Here are a few tips on how you can avoid the blues.

*YES, EXERCISE

Winter weather can make it difficult to get outside for a walk or a run, which can lead to grumpiness. If you can get outside, but if not exercise indoors. Colby is fortunate to have some work out centers. The college has a great indoor tennis complex where you can play pickle ball, tennis or get your walk in, indoors.

*GET SOME SUNSHINE

Take a hint from your cat...or dog. When the sun is beaming into the room, sit in that ray of sunshine and read a book, drink a cup of coffee.

*EMBRACE THE FUN PARTS OF WINTER

Think about what you like in the winter. Maybe a cozy fire, a cup of hot chocolate, or a day sledding with the kids. Plan an indoors party for friends and neighbors, gather for fellowship and laughter.

*INDOOR HOME PROJECTS

Yes, just doing an indoor home project you have been putting off, can help you find value in a cold winter day. Clean your closet and organize, organize the pantry, redecorate a room...be creative and find in expensive ways to make it look new and fresh.

*RENEWAL AND OPPORTUNITY

View the winter as an opportunity for renewal, planning and even healing. It is the preface to spring, a time of new beginnings and planting seeds. Winter will provide you with the opportunity to get a balance, physically, mentally, and emotionally, so that you can emerge your best self in the spring.

NOW HAVE I CONVINCED YOU WINTER ISN'T SO BAD?
