Summer means days are getting longer, grills are going, yard work is beginning....and there are For Sale Signs start popping up.

Summer is the most popular time of the year to buy and sell a home.

There are some distinct advantages to buying a home in the summer.

There is a huge myth about the real estate market, that is it when homes sell for more and less in the winter. In my opinion (I have 40 plus years of real estate sales experience) this is simply not true.

What is true is that there are usually more homes on the market in the summer than in the winter, and there is also a higher number of sales in the summer than the winter.

This leads me to my opinion of advantages of buying a home in the summer.

  1. The inventory is broader. The larger inventory offers significantly more opportunities for purchasers to get more of what they are looking for in a home.

  2. Buying and selling at the same time could be easier. If you need to sell your current home before you can buy another, you'll likely have an easier time with the balancing act during the summer.

  3. School is out! By waiting until summer to make your move, you can minimize disruption to your kid's lives.

  4. Getting to know the lay of the land. It's easier to do a little detective work on a potential home when the weather's nice and the days are longer. Trees and flowers are in full bloom, so you'll get a better idea of the prospective new yard you may get with a new home. You can even get a better feel for the community the home is located in.

Don't sweat the idea of buying a home in the summer. Instead take advantage of the summer to find the home that fits your needs and desires! Please contact me if you have any questions about our current summer Colby market.
