There is nothing more inviting and welcoming then a decorated front porch. I have to confess, I've always thought houses without a front porch look a little bit naked. I also know that the tiniest little front stoop decorated just adds so much character and coziness to any home.
If you are lucky to have a front porch, I think it's well worth putting a little time into making it attractive.
Front porches come in all shapes and sizes, each one with their own unique challenges. But you can create an entry that will get guests and family members attention
Before you start, think about the purpose of the space. Is it just going to be as welcoming spot, or will you be able to use it, even creating an outdoor living space.
I love my front porch! It is welcoming, but it also has a function. I have two wood rockers, some plants, a table, and it is the perfect spot for morning coffee or afternoon ice tea. I have throw pillows on my rockers and even an area outdoor rug. It says "hello" to guest and extends a welcome for a glass of ice tea and conversation.
If you have just a stoop, think about sitting potted flowers on the stoop. Adding that pop of color and a flower gives even the tiny step personality and warmth.
Spring is here and summer is around the corner, so I suggest you take a drive around town and look at all the front porches and all the various decorating styles. You will find some great ideas and ones you may want to borrow and use at your own home. Take a drive by my home, at 395 Walking Trail Lane.
You know the throw pillows become seasonal and the front porch at Christmas time becomes a Christmas season theme.
Bottom line, have fun with it and you don't have to spend lots of money. You probably have items in your home stored that you no longer use that can help create your outdoor haven...on your own front porch.
