I bet we can all remember the great times we had in the summer, right in our own yard. Turn on the water hose or sprinkler and get ready for a summer time treat. Well, I think kids today can benefit from summer family fun, that is affordable and one that will have great memory potential.

With high inflation and everything costing so much today, I think planning your own family summer fun activities is a way to keep your money in your pocket and do what most kids want...just spending time with you. Now, that doesn't mean your teenagers will jump at the idea but who knows maybe they will. You know how we acted as a teen...I think todays teens are the same..."we don't want to act like we enjoy it". LOL

Here are a few ideas: 1. Play in the sprinkler, cooling off in the summer heat cam be fun for both kids and parents.

2. Host a backyard Olympics. Make it fun by creating different events like kickball, relay races, or push up competition. Top it off my handing out medals at the close of the ceremony.

3. Create your own scavenger hunt. Leave clues both inside and outside the house to send the kids on an exciting, at-home adventure.

4. Make as music video. Dress up in fun outfits and make instruments out of at-home objects like pots, pans, rice in a cup or wooden spoons. Set up your phone, hit record and rock out.

5. Have a backyard camp out. There is nothing better then sleeping out in a tent and having a picnic and each child having his own flash light, add some great stories under the stars and there will be laughter.

6. Have an outdoor movie night. Remember how much fun going to the drive-in movies were for us? Ok...I just showed you how old I am! Hang up an old sheet and use a projector to enjoy a family movie in the back yard and no movie night is complete without snacks!

Sure, great vacations to the ocean, amusement parks and mountains are special, but you don't have to spend lots of money, to create great memorable family summer memories in your own back yard. Have a great summer!
